What to expect
On arrival
You will be greeted by one of the committee and directed to the ticket desk.
If you have any questions, do ask one of the committee or our volunteers.
We all wear lanyards – the committee have yellow badges and volunteers have green.
Toilets are on the right of the foyer, opposite the main entrance to the hall. Please look for the sign.
- If you haven’t already purchased a ticket, you can buy one on the door (subject to availablity) paying either by card or cash.
- Refreshments are served in the interval (tea, coffee, fruit juice & biscuits), but please buy a ticket (£1) before the concert.
- Programmes for most concerts cost £1. We can provide large print progammes if we know in advance you would like one.
- You may also like to support the society by puchasing raffle tickets (50p) or make a donation for one of our donated CDs
- Also in the foyer, you will find details of other local concerts and publicity material for our own concerts (leaflets and posters). Please feel free to take any of interest and do share our posters and leaflets with friends and people in your local area.
Seating:
- Seats are unreserved so the earlier you arrive the greater choice you will have.
- The seating is tiered without a handrail. Please let us know in advance if it would be helpful to have seats at ground level or in one of the lower tiers.
- If you are unsteady on your feet, please choose one of the lower tiers, or ask someone for help when descending the stairs.
If you haven’t been to a classical concert before:
- Many of the artists will say a few words about the pieces
- A programme may help you to follow the music. The terms in italics indicate how the music should be played. They also indicate how many movements (distinct parts of the piece) there are. The artist(s) normally have a short pause between movements. Audiences generally do not applaud until the whole piece has finished
- If you are not familiar with classical music terminology, you may find it useful to check out some of the more commonly used terms here.
During the interval
- Refreshments are served in the foyer. (Coffee to the right and tea to the left)
- There is additional seating at the upper level and down the side, past the door to the hall.
- If you have come on your own, we have a ‘Soloists’ table where you can meet others who have also come on their own.
- If the artists have brought CDs to sell, these will be available at the ticket desk.
- Please fill in a comment slip so we can share thees with the artists and use the feedback to ilustrate the concert on our website.
- If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please fill in a blue slip
- A bell is rung at the end of the interval, please make you way back into the hall when you hear it.
After the concert
- Many artists are willing to talk to members of the audience, please wait behind if you would like to meet them.
- Exit from the concert hall is by the fire door to the left as you face the stage.
